If your document asks for a password when you open it, you’ll need to create an unlocked copy before uploading it to the Claims Centre. You do not need paid software to do this.
This method works on most computers and mobile devices.
On a Computer (Windows or Mac)
Step-by-Step: “Print to PDF” Method
- Open the PDF file
- Double-click the file.
- Enter the password when prompted.
- Open the Print menu
- On Windows: Press Ctrl + P
- On Mac: Press Command (⌘) + P
- Select “Print to PDF”
In the Printer list, choose:- Microsoft Print to PDF (Windows), or
- PDF > Save as PDF (Mac)
- Create the new file
- Click Print.
- A window will open asking where to save the file.
- Choose a location (like Desktop or Documents).
- Give the file a new name (example: Receipt-Unlocked.pdf).
- Click Save.
- Check the new file
- Open the newly saved PDF.
- Confirm it does not ask for a password.
- You can now upload this new file to the Claims Centre.
On a Mobile Phone or Tablet
iPhone / iPad
- Open the PDF and enter the password.
- Tap the Share icon.
- Select Print.
- On the preview screen, zoom in with two fingers (this converts it into a PDF).
- Tap the Share icon again.
- Choose Save to Files.
Upload the saved file to the Claims Centre.
Android Devices
- Open the PDF and enter the password.
- Tap the menu (⋮) or Share option.
- Select Print.
- Choose Save as PDF as the printer.
- Tap Save and choose a location.
- Upload the saved file.
⚠️ Important
- You must know the password to open the original file.
- This process creates a copy of the document without password protection.
- If you don’t know the password, contact the company or provider who sent the document.
- Menu names, buttons, and steps may vary slightly depending on your device, operating system version, or PDF app.
